Graduates of the PhD Program in Engineering Sciences with a specialization in Bioprocesses will be able to:

• Conduct original research in the Program’s research lines.
• Propose innovative solutions in one of the Program’s lines.
• Effectively communicate research results in scientific dissemination media.
• Work collaboratively with autonomy, responsibility, and ethical standards.
• Perform in R&D units, both public and private, and in higher education centers

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Science in fields compatible with the Program (Food Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Biotechnology Engineering, Bioprocess Engineering, or similar fields), or possess a professional degree with equivalent studies.
• Demonstrate an interest in research and generating new knowledge.
• Have research experience, demonstrable through participation in projects as a research assistant, thesis student, or intern.
• Be able to integrate into work teams and work autonomously and proactively.
• Possess an intermediate level of English (oral and written).

• Letter of application to the Program addressed to the Program Director. This letter should state the reasons for applying to the Doctoral Program and the research line of interest for the Thesis work (download template here).
• Curriculum Vitae in the specified format (download here).
• Degree or professional title certificate.
• Undergraduate transcripts and final grade average.
• Certificate or document accrediting an intermediate level of English.
• Certificate of graduation ranking, if available from the institution of origin.
• Two recommendation letters from academics or professionals knowledgeable about the applicant’s capabilities and competencies for postgraduate studies. Recommendation letters must be submitted in the specified format (download here), and sent by the recommender to the Program Director (doctorado.bioprocesos@ufrontera.cl).
• A letter from a Program Faculty member confirming their availability to act as the thesis advisor.
• RESEARCH PROPOSAL AND STUDY OBJECTIVE

1. Application: The stage during which the applicant submits their application for admission to the Program, along with the required documentation. The process must be completed by filling out the application form between April 13 and August 28, 2026.
2. Interview: The applicant will be interviewed in person or remotely (videoconference) with the Program Director, accompanied by at least two members of the Academic Committee.
3. Selection: The Academic Committee evaluates and selects applicants, then informs them of the results.
4. Enrollment: Selected applicants pay the required fees and register for their curricular activities, becoming regular students of the Program.

• Accepted students can apply for the National Doctoral Scholarship from ANID.
